να συνδέει τη θεωρία με την πράξη, αλλά και τους ανθρώπους μεταξύ τους;
πολιτισμικής ευαισθητοποίησης των νεαρών ανθρώπων;
Could it be that the interaction between
the students of an extroverted school and visitors connect theory to practice
and people to one another? Can we aspire to sustainable development if we don't
trigger the imagination, cultivate critical thinking and enhance the
environmental and cultural awareness of the young people?
During the 2013-14 academic year within
the framework of our cooperation between the Art School of Gerakas and the 1st
Ephorate of prehistoric and classical Antiquities of Athens, the students of
the Art School of Gerakas focused on the exploration of the representation of
the human figure through the study of portraits exhibited in the Museum.
Detailed research brought us face to face with cultural and aesthetic values as
well as with the social context of different eras.
Through this project, students as well
as visitors will be enabled to experientially approach social structures of
various cultural periods in a bilateral way. Thus, through a different scope,
we are seeking to explore the "form" in the age of information and
images. The plastic arts installation unfolds in a pillar and by a review of
the past, it depicts three separate aspects of the social structure. Different
sections on this pillar refer to periods in the past during which social models
of major importance made a difference.
This year, inspired by the rich in
meaning and stimulating archaeological site of the Athenian Agora, we invite
you to participate in an interactive installation aiming to your aesthetic and
social involvement.
The installation challenges both the
young artists and the visitors to reflect on different social and cultural
structures, from the caveman to the Time of Image and the Internet world. The
installation takes the form of a pillar incorporating a kind of a 3D social
timeline. Each of the three levels refers to a key social model.
Through a kaleidoscope of images we have
the first level that presents the primary forms of society. On the second level
we have a depiction of the classical era of the city-state of ancient Athena,
where the values of equality of rights and equality before the law were
prevalent. Central to the third level is the relation between the individual
and present day's reality. In the proposed interaction, visitors will have the
chance to mirror themselves in the Agora model and then have their images
imprinted digitally. They will then be asked to record their country of origin
and their e-mails so as to receive later on an electronic copy of their
photographs. Finally and in an act that symbolizes the timeless and
multicultural character of the Ancient Agora, visitors will put a pin at their
homeland on a panel that illustrates a global map.
